Lithuanian Government Building is located in the heart of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Although it was built 1982, the cabinet of Lithuania moved to these premises only in 1992, right after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Restoration of Independence of Lithuania. The architecture is pretty uniform with many repeated elements and only few extraordinary shapes. Despite this the Government Building integrates well into environment and adds its own charm to the city center.
The building is quit massive and rectangular with an inner courtyard, 220 rooms, 8 meeting halls and the total area of around 15 thousand square meters. Being such a huge and old structure it has one downside characteristic – a poor energy efficiency which does not comply with current requirements, therefore is queued for a renovation project.
UAB Terramodus were commissioned to carry out a laser scanning project and prepare accurate and reliable as-built documentation for the primary renovation stage. The task was to produce floor plans, sections and elevations in a form of 2D *.dwg. The project consisted of 2120 inside and 230 outside scan locations (2350 scans and 316 GB on disk in total) and was collected over the course of two weeks with a FARO X330. Scans were registered in Scene 5.3 and output as E57 files.
After registering the scan data was brought into UNDET ToolBox V2.2 for AutoCAD which is a perfect choice for handling massive point clouds in AutoCAD environment and deriving as-built documentation for Measured Building Surveys.
