Features

  • You don’t need to load bulky RCP (Recap) files to see detail point cloud slices in Revit views, which slow down Revit itself. This is exactly how Undet software offers to significantly reduce the time it takes to digitize point clouds in Revit.

  • The Fit Wall tool will let you quickly model walls by picking 3 points in a point cloud slice, creating fixed pitch wall types. You can choose on how to model: individual wall fragments or an entire wall chain.

  • Topo Creation tools allow you quickly and intuitive project or create a topo surface on a point cloud.

  • Batch Processing feature allows you to create multiple raster images in multiple views with just one click. Meaning you no longer need to manually create point cloud slices one by one in all the Revit views.

  • Instance Parameters to Type Parameters tool lets you to use instance parameters for faster modelling, and later on convert selected Windows and Doors objects to Type Parameters objects as should be used in BIM models.

  • The spot annotation tool lets you quickly understand point cloud changes in heights. For example, it is possible to quickly find out the ceiling heights and their differences without having to create new sections while working on a plan view.

  • Call Browser function lets you open a panoramic view of the scan position, allowing you to quickly understand a point cloud slice.  Also, by using the Undet Browser Translate View Section tool you can quickly shift the point cloud slice to see that you want to see.

  • View Sync 3D model view feature to synchronize the Undet Browser and a Revit 3D model to see the identical view simultaneously from the same camera position.

  • Model Inspection QC tools to generate QC Report based on 360-degree scan station images in Undet Browser to ensure the accuracy or identify missing parts of 3D model.

  • Elements analysis tool to set “Modelling Tolerance” parameter to the properties of each BIM element to reflect its reliability against the point cloud. This tool will allow you to identify which architectural elements are modelled inaccurately or unreliably.

  • Surface Analysis tools to compare your 3D model to the point cloud to check for accuracy while modelling.

  • Quick access to point cloud viewer to view and analyze your 3D reality data in a way that feels like being live on site.

  • Point cloud colouring rendering mode by reference plane in fixed intervals to quickly understand changes in geometry to draw or identify missing lines/objects.

  • Fast and easy point cloud data import into Revit. Works with any 3D laser scanner, UAV or photogrammetry software. Supported point cloud formats: *.E57, *.FLS, *.RCP/RCS, *.PTX, *.ZFS,*.LAS, *.LAZ, *.PTS, *.PLY, *.DP, *.FPR, *.LSPROJ, *.FWS, *.CL3, *.CLR, *.RSP, ASCII / NEZ (X,Y,Z/i/RGB) and custom ASCII / TXT file format imports.

  • Point cloud visualization with multiple colour modes: by source (RGB), by intensity, by plane, by Z (height), by scan stations, and by additional transparency mode.

  • Software is optimized to maintain high computer and software performance even when working with large amounts of point cloud datasets (hundreds or even thousands of scan stations/files).

  • Intuitive point cloud viewer integration to understand & see better what the point cloud represents.

  • Coordinates system manager to move your point cloud quickly and align scan data to the 3D model, or automatically adjust the coordinate system from the georeferenced point cloud, or read coordinates from the attached Recap file.

  • Quick access to hide/show loaded 3D point cloud and change coloring mode.

  • 3D point cloud slicing tool by irregular polygons.

Undet for Revit plugin enables Revit point cloud users to experience better visibility, increased control, and performance. Thanks to the unique management algorithm of Undet point cloud, you can work with massive data sets without slowing down Revit itself. It’s an ideal solution for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals who wants to improve SCAN2BIM workflow.

There are two ways to import point cloud data into Revit: You can use a native Revit point cloud import feature and attach Recap files into (*.RCP / *.RCS). Or you can use an advanced Undet point cloud plugin to import point clouds in Revit. This will allow you to expand the capabilities of point cloud management and increase productivity when dealing with massive point cloud data directly in Revit.

Undet, the Revit point cloud plug-in allowing you to effortlessly import point cloud files from a wide range of sources, including 3D laser scanners, UAVs, 3D sensors, and photogrammetry software, directly into Revit. With its advanced features, Undet makes it easy to work with various point cloud formats, including *.E57, *.FLS, *.RCP/RCS, *.PTX, *.ZFS, *.LAS, *.LAZ, *.PTS, *.PLY, *.DP, *.FPR, *.LSPROJ, *.FWS, *.CL3, *.CLR, *.RSP, and ASCII / NEZ (X,Y,Z/i/RGB), as well as custom ASCII / TXT file formats.

Point clouds in Revit can be used for a variety of purposes throughout the project life cycle for design, construction, operation, retrofits, and renovation projects:

  • Digitize the existing building or any structure, and make its 3D model (accurate as-built documentation).
  • Plan and design. Point clouds can be used as base information about existing conditions by providing detailed information for planning and designing new construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Visualize ideas and see how they will fit and affect the existing environment. Point clouds provide a realistic 3D representation of the scanned object or environment.
  • Carry out engineering assessments and measurements. You can compare your 3D model with a point cloud and quickly identify missed or inaccurate details.

Cutting the point cloud is not only possible, but it is also necessary when working with it. Nevertheless, you are using a very tiny point cloud, which does not need to be cropped, and everything is clearly visible in single point cloud image.

It is better to avoid point cloud moving, nevertheless, you use specialized tools to transform point cloud coordinates. In other cases, simply moving the point cloud can cause problems: make a lot of analysis, drawing and modeling errors, which will take a long time to correct.

Point cloud geometry cannot be edited, you can only slice and use different colouring modes to represent it.

The current version of Undet for Revit 2023 does not have tools to automate 3D point cloud modelling workflow.

Undet for Revit focused on providing unique management algorithms to create, edit and organize point cloud sections of massive point clouds and manage their visibility without slowing down Revit itself.

There are three main challenges:

  • Maintain high computer and software performance. Working with point clouds can be difficult due to their large size and complexity, and you might need special software such as Undet to handle them efficiently, especially in Revit.
  • To understand the point cloud and find what need in it. As you may know, point cloud represents a copy of the digital world, and when doing laser scanning, you are capturing everything you see: furniture, people, cars, equipment, absolutely everything available at that time. Therefore, sometimes, it takes more work to understand the 3D point cloud, especially for a new user.
  • The last challenge is digitizing point clouds into 3D BIM models. To do this, you first need to know the process, how it happens, and straightforward specialized tools to make it happen quickly and easily.

You don’t need a high end computer to handle the Undet software. However, there are some technical requirements you should be aware of to ensure optimal performance.

  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 & 11 (64-bit only)
  • CPU: 3.0 GHz or faster processor. Multiple CPUs or multicore CPUs recommended for point cloud processing
  • RAM: 16 GB or more recommended
  • GPU: We recommend using graphical processors like NVidia or AMD with a 3D Graphics accelerator card with OpenGL version 4.4 or newer, and GPU should be with at least 4 GB of VRAM
  • Hard Drive: SSD must be used for faster performance.

The Undet for Revit was created to provide an alternative workflow with large point cloud projects in Revit, instead of using heavy RCP files which slows down Revit itself, Undet provides a dedicated slice manager with everything you need to organize point cloud sections and manage their visibility.

Undet significantly reduces the time it takes to process massive point clouds in Revit, and helps you to increase your modelling accuracy.
