Roll-out & Export Function in Undet for AutoCAD

< Back

The Roll-out & Export function in Undet for AutoCAD is a powerful tool that allows users to create highly detailed roll-out views of point clouds, particularly useful for walls and other linear elements. This feature provides maximum resolution exports for point clouds and saves the output as a new .ipcp file.

Step-by-Step Guide to Roll-out & Export in Undet

1. Open Your Point Cloud

Start by opening your point cloud in AutoCAD with Undet.

2. Draw the Elevation Line

Once the point cloud is open, the first step in preparing for the roll-out is to draw a line using the Draw Elevation Line tool.

  • Purpose: The line represents the axis along which the wall or surface will be “rolled out” for export.
  • Positioning: Ensure that the line is drawn at the exact location where you want to export the roll-out view (e.g., along the wall surface).

3. Set Line Direction using LTSCALE

After drawing the line, it’s important to ensure that the line is oriented in the correct direction.

  • Check Line Orientation: To do this, adjust the LTSCALE (Line Type Scale) setting in AutoCAD.
    • Set LTSCALE to 0.1 (the default size is 1). If you still can’t see the line direction, check the linetype properties and set it to ‘View Direction Line’.
    • This setting will display the direction of the line clearly.
  • Correct Line Direction: If the line is facing the opposite direction of the wall (i.e., pointing outward instead of inward), use the Reverse function to flip the line’s direction.
    • How to Reverse: Select the line, and type Reverse to correct the line’s direction.

4. Crop the Point Cloud to the Desired View

Once the line direction is correct, use Undet’s cropping tools to refine the point cloud to the exact section of the wall or area you want to roll out.

  • Crop for Precision: Make sure to crop the point cloud carefully, use Clip Inside/Clip Outside tools if needed.

5. Set the Roll-out View Length

Now, define how much of the point cloud will be included in the roll-out by setting the roll-out view length.

  • Length Settings: You can specify how far the roll-out will extend from the line.
    • For example, setting a value of 0.1 will export a roll-out view extending 10 cm to both sides of the line.
  • Full Crop Export: If you want to export everything that was cropped earlier, set the roll-out length to -1. This setting will include all the cropped areas in the final export.
    • Note: Be sure to crop your view precisely when using the -1 setting, as it will export everything within the crop.

6. Export the Roll-out as an IPCP File

Once you have set the length for the roll-out view, you’re ready to export the point cloud.

  • Export Process: The Roll-out function will export a new .ipcp file containing the roll-out view of the point cloud.
    • The exported point cloud will be at the highest possible resolution based on your cropping and length settings.

By following these steps, you can successfully create detailed and high-resolution roll-out views of point clouds in AutoCAD using the Undet Roll-out & Export function.
