Undet Indexer stops during project creation (out of memory)

If the Undet Indexer shows a message that it has run out of available memory
while creating a project or adding scan data, it means your computer reached its memory limit
during indexing. This is most common on large projects (for example ~1000 E57 scans).

The good news: it is easy to fix by giving Windows more memory to work with. This is not a
problem with your scan data — the same project will usually index successfully once more
memory is available.

What causes it

When the Undet Indexer processes large projects, it needs a significant amount of memory.
If the available memory — including the Windows virtual memory (pagefile) —
is too low or has been manually limited, the Indexer reaches a memory ceiling and stops before
completing.

Quick fix

1. Make sure your computer meets the recommended memory requirements of 16GB RAM.
2. Check that your Windows pagefile is set to “System managed” and has not
   been manually limited to a small size.
3. Restart the Undet Indexer and create the project again.

Detailed steps — check and fix your Windows virtual memory (pagefile)

Follow these steps to make sure Windows is allowed to use enough virtual memory:

1. Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl and press Enter.
2. Go to the Advanced tab.
3. Under Performance, click Settings…
4. In the new window, go to the Advanced tab.
5. Under Virtual memory, click Change…
6. Tick “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”.
   (Or, if you prefer — or if it is already automatic but still too low — set it manually, making sure the size is large: at least equal to, or greater than, your installed RAM.)
7. Click OK on all windows and restart your computer.

After restarting, open the Undet Indexer and create your project again. It should now
complete without stopping.
